We hope to welcome back existing members as well as some new members.  Remember potential members can come along to two meetings free of charge before deciding to join but please note you must join before entering competitions.  If you register your interest by email, we’ll keep you updated on all this summer events and news.

Programme for the 2018-2019 season.

Our 2018-2019 programme features top class guest photographers and speakers, friendly competitions and practical evenings, plus of course a number of home and away matches with neighboring clubs.   In September we will publish our confirmed programme here and you will be able to get printed copies at our meetings or from Saxon Photographic in Shaftesbury.

In addition to our main programme, we have additional full-evening workshops for paid-up members with details in our September Newsletter.  We also run informal workshops  throughout our season offering short one-to-one sessions on various aspects of photography: all members need to do is to let us know what they would like covered.  The possible topics are endless: composition, camera settings, photoshop and software, colour management and printing, mounts, preparing pdi’s, etc., etc.  Just drop Chris an email.

  • Print Exhibition @ Gold Hill Museum – Saturday 3rd to Friday 10th May 2019

Thursday 13th. September 2018

Our first meeting of the season welcomes members  new  and  old. Former members please bring prints (unmounted) and PDIs (on a memory stick) of your summer work especially shadows, set subject for the Bradford Abbas competition.

 

Thursday 27th. September:  Guest Speakers: Gary Kendall and Ross Nolan:  The Role of the Army Photographer

Gary and Ross are combat photographers trained by  the  British  Army.  They  work  in  the Royal Logistic Corps whose role is to provide a media  capability to promote and protect the reputation of the British Army worldwide including Iraq, Afghanistan and other areas.

 

Thursday 11th. October:  The Shuffell Trophy,  round 1.   Prints and PDIs

Subject: 1st. Print and/or PDIi Shadows. 2nd. Print and/or PDI Open

 

Tuesday   23th. October:  The Bradford Abbas Shield competition away

Subject: Shadows.  Clubs taking part are Sherborne Bradford Abbas, Yeovil, Wincanton, South Petherton and ourselves. Each club to enter 5 prints and 5 PDIs.

 

Thursday 25th. October:  Guest speaker: Malcolm MacNaughton:  A Land of Mountains and Flood

Malcolm will talk about his style of photography showing a range of monochrome prints and the equipment he uses, He will discuss his photographic influences and explain how it has developed.

 

Thursday   8th. November:  Members evening. Why I took the picture

 

Thursday 22nd. November:  The Shuffell Trophy, round 2.  Prints and PDIs.  Subject: Open

 

Thursday   6th. December:  An evening with Andy Farrer

Exhibited widely, Andy’s beautiful images are sought after by both corporate and private buyers. Anyone who meets this highly likeable photographer will be struck by his absolute dedication and his extraordinary knowledge. It is no surprise that he has recently been invited to join the much respected Light & Land team.

 

Thursday 20th. December:  Christmas party.  Watch this space – something new this year…

Plus two Chairman’s Challenge competitions. One PDI taken  on smart phones and/or one unmounted print taken with any camera.

 

Thursday 10th. January 2019:  Members Audio visual evening

Short presentations of approximately 4 or 5 minutes.

 

Thursday 24th. January:  Guest speakers: Graham and Jackie Poynter:  Viewpoints and Points of View.

A selection of both Jackie and Graham’s favourite photographs with helpful hints on composition.

 

Thursday 31st. January (3rd meeting in month):   The Shuffell Trophy, round 3.  Prints and PDIs,  Subject: Open monochrome.

 

Thursday 14th. February:  Ladies v Gents.  Subject TBA

Thursday 28th. February:  An evening with Paul and Debbie Simpson: The Art of Pure Wedding Photojournalism

Paul and Debbie are International Award Winning  Photographers and club members

 

Thursday 14th. March:  The Overseas Challenge with Aspley Camera Club, Brisbane, Australia

Subject: Open. 24 PDIs per club (12 colour, 12 mono)

 

Thursday 28th, March:  Guest speaker: Tony Worobiec:  The art of composition

A Fellow of the RPS, Tony is a fine art photographer with work in the permanent collection of The RPS, The Fox Talbot Museum and in numerous corporate and private collections in the UK, in Europe, Japan and in The States.

 

Thursday 11th. April:   The Shaftesbury Camera Club PDI Shaston Challenge

This year’s Clubs are Wincanton, Wareham, Parkstone plus ourselves.   Subject: Open. 12 images per club

 

Tuesday 16th. April:  Match an Image competition at Blandford.  Clubs: Blandford, Dorset Light and ourselves

 

Tuesday 23rd. April:  The Story behind the Picture

Sherborne Bradford Abbas hosts their annual informal, non-competitive evening with Dorchester and ourselves

 

Thursday 25th. April:  Print and PDI Image of the Year Competition  

 

Saturday   3rd. May – Friday 10th. May: Members Annual Exhibition in Gold Hill Museum.

 

Thursday   9th. May:  Star night presentation by Allen Lloyd

Allen has been involved in photography and teaching for more years than he cares to remember. He lectures for the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain and is a member of the Distinctions Panel, of the Royal Photographic Society

 

Thursday 23rd. May:  Social Evening with AGM and prize giving
