Competition Guidance

This should be read in conjunction with the Competition Rules and is only to help understanding of some points and cover other competitions

 

GENERAL CONDITIONS

As rules: the marks shown at present apply to The Shuffell Trophy (print and pdi), Print of the Year, PDI of the Year and Gold Hill Cup (Print and PDI) competitions

 

ELIGIBILITY

1-4, As rules: Please note that Print and PDI competitions are separate categories, and members can enter one or both categories.

 

PRINTS – GENERAL

5-7 As rules: Ideally a digital image of any prints entered should also be uploaded to aid selection for external competitions. These can be either to the normal PDI dimensions or a snapshot of the print

10. The Shuffell Trophy (Print) (Named to honour a generous founding member of our club) A cumulative competition for Photographer of the Year (Print) As rules:

  1. Gold Hill Cup (Print) Any member who doesn’t have an image in the Print of the Year may enter up to 2 Prints, they can have been shown previously or can be new. The object of this competition is to involve members who are not always winners. The winner of the Gold Hill Cup will automatically be entered into the following season’s Print of the Year Competition and will therefore be unable to enter the Gold Hill Cup that year.
  2. Print of the Year – as rules: Members will be informed which of their prints are required, these can be enhanced if the photographer wishes.

 

COMPETITIONS AND AWARDS – PROJECTED DIGITAL IMAGES

13. The Shuffell Trophy (Projected Digital Images) (Named to honour a generous founding member of our club) A cumulative competition for Photographer of the Year (PDIs) as rules:

  1. Gold Hill Cup (PDI) Any member who doesn’t have an image in the PDI of the Year may enter up to 2 PDIs, they can have been shown previously or can be new. The object of this competition is to involve members who are not always winners. The winner of the Gold Hill Cup will automatically be entered into the following season’s PDI of the Year Competition and will therefore be unable to enter the Gold Hill Cup (PDI) that year.
  2. Projected Digital Image of the Year- as rules: Members images will be used from previous uploads but can be enhanced and re-entered. Remember to inform the PDI secretary and make arrangements.

 

OTHER COMPETITIONS AND OPPORTUNITIES TO SEE MEMBERS WORK

  1. Other competitions may be held as and when these are deemed appropriate. For example:

Ladies V Gents. A light-hearted, needle competition that all members are encouraged to enter. You may enter up to 6PDI images and at least 1 (and up to 4) will be included in the final competition. It may have a set subject. The judge will award marks out of 10 (including half marks) and the team with the most marks wins!

Members choice. A light-hearted ‘pop-up’ competition where a subject is suggested and members come back with their images to be voted on by the audience on a show of hands. No critique or marks, just a bit of fun

10×20 Ten images that you speak about for 20 seconds each. This is an occasional non- competitive way of viewing members work and interests. It doesn’t need to be Competition standard images, and they are usually uploaded through a dropbox on the website.

A/V or Audio-Visual presentation is similar to the above but using a soundtrack (music or speech) behind your images. Ideally no more than 4-5minutes long

Annual Print Exhibition held in Gold Hill Museum. Members are invited to submit up to 6 Prints, numbered in the order they would like them to be used. We will hang as many as we can but may need to discard the 6’s and even the 5’s if we have too many (So far all prints have been hung) Titles will be required 2-3 weeks before the exhibition and the actual prints about 10 days. Prints will be returned at the meeting following the Exhibition. Sizes as for normal club competitions.

Shaston Challenge. (Shaston being an historical name for Shaftesbury) A competition with 2 or 3 other invited clubs, held in Shaftesbury. 16 or 12 PDIs per club and we will choose our entry from images that have been shown in internal competitions. Maximum of 2 images per member.

Match an image. A light-hearted meeting with other clubs. Very different images are required for this. Please see https://shaftesburycameraclub.org.uk/2019/match-an-image-competitions/

Bradford Abbas Shield A 5 club Competition hosted by Bradford Abbas Sherbourne for 6 prints and 6 PDIs per club on a subject chosen by last year’s winning club.

Western Counties Photographic Federation Inter Club Championship. A large interclub competition for PDIs This is usually held in early February so our entry will be chosen in December, usually from images submitted for previous competitions. The entry must adhere to the WCPF rules.
