COMPETITION RULES (amended 2025-2026)

 

GENERAL CONDITIONS

Whilst members do not have to print or mount their own work themselves, creativity and judgement must be their own. The copyright of all components in an image must be the property of the entrant. Judges may use their own discretion when awarding marks for the quality of presentation. The opinion of the judge(s) will be final.

Where appropriate, marks will be given as follows:

Gold: 10

Silver: 8

Bronze: 6

HC: 4

All others: 2

All images may be used by the Shaftesbury Camera Club for external competitions and/or for the website unless specifically agreed otherwise.

 

ELIGIBILITY

  1. An entrant must be a paid-up member of Shaftesbury Camera Club.
  2. Print titles and the files of Projected Digital Images (PDI’s) should be uploaded via the website at least one week before the relevant Competition and in accordance with the file-sizing and file-naming as stated on the website.
  3. Prints and Projected Digital Images entered for a Shuffell Competition may not be submitted for any future Shuffell Print or PDI Competition.
  4. Specifically, for the Shuffell Competitions, an entrant may only enter the third round if they have previously entered at least one of the earlier rounds in the same category (i.e. Prints or PDI’s)

 

PRINTS – GENERAL

  1. Unless otherwise stated, each member may enter up to two prints in a competition.
  2. The maximum overall size for prints including the mount is 20 inches x 16 inches (50.8 cm x 40.6 cm).
  3. Every print must be mounted on card. The back of the mount must be marked with the name of the member and the title of the image.

 

PROJECTED DIGITAL IMAGES – GENERAL

  1. Unless otherwise stated, each member may enter up to two PDI’s in a competition.
  2. All PDI’s must be submitted in accordance with the current guidelines at the time for the preparation of images for digital projection.

 

COMPETITIONS AND AWARDS – PRINTS

  1. The Shuffell Trophy (Prints)

There will be 3 Competitions in each season. The winner will be the member who has entered at least 2 of the competitions and who has gained the highest total of marks for the season.

  1. Gold Hill Cup (Prints)

 The Competition is open to all Members who have not qualified for the Print of the Year, and each such Member may enter up to two prints.

  1. Print of the Year

The Prints awarded Gold, Silver or Bronze in each round of the Shuffell Print Trophy will be entered into the Competition.

The winning entry of the previous Season’s Gold Hill Cup (Prints) will also qualify for the Competition.

 

COMPETITIONS AND AWARDS – PROJECTED DIGITAL IMAGES

  1. The Shuffell Trophy (Projected Digital Images)

 There will be 3 competitions in each season. The winner will be the member who has entered at least 2 of the competitions and who has gained the highest total of marks for the season.

  1. Gold Hill Cup (Projected Digital Images)

The Competition is open to all Members who have not qualified for the Projected Digital Image of the Year, and each such Member may enter up to two PDI’s.

  1. Projected Digital Image of the Year

The PDI’s awarded Gold, Silver or Bronze in each round of the Shuffell PDI Trophy will be entered into the Competition.

The winning entry of the previous Season’s Gold Hill Cup (PDI) will also qualify for the Competition.

 

OTHER COMPETITIONS

  1. Other Competitions

 Other competitions may be held as and when these are deemed appropriate and may have different rules and marks.

 

The Rules were approved at the Annual General Meeting in April 2025.
